"I gave all my life—now it's time to receive, not give anymore"
How it sounds in your head: I've tithed for seventy years. I've given sacrificially, supported missions, built buildings. Surely there's a season where I'm allowed to just receive? I've done my part. I've earned the right to be on the receiving end now.
"The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing."
-- Psalm 92:12-14Source: religious thinking that positions giving as finite obligation with completion point, retirement mentality applied to covenant participation
A lifetime of faithful giving feels like it should count for something, like graduating from the giving requirement. The word 'enough' feels appropriate after decades of faithfulness.
Abraham tithed to Melchizedek at age 75, continued covenant generosity when he fathered Isaac at 100, and was STILL blessed and multiplying at 140+ when he took another wife and had six more sons. His generosity and God's blessing didn't diminish with age—he died 'old and full of years' in wealth and fruitfulness, bearing fruit until his last breath.
I REFUSE the lie that age retires me from generosity and covenant participation. IT IS WRITTEN that the righteous bear fruit in OLD AGE and are fresh and flourishing—there's no expiration date on my fruitfulness. I honor the Lord with FIRSTFRUITS continually, and my barns are filled with PLENTY at ANY age. IT IS WRITTEN that Abraham walked in the BARAK blessing into his hundreds, still multiplying, still generous. I don't retire from covenant—I still GIVE, and heaven still OPENS. My old age is still SEED-TIME and HARVEST. I flourish, I bear fruit, I give, I receive—STILL.
The Father doesn't see your lifetime of giving and say 'You're done, sit down'—He sees your faithfulness and says 'You still have fruit to bear, fresh supply to experience, windows of heaven still pouring out because generosity doesn't age out of covenant.' You're fresh and flourishing, not finished and retired.
