"I failed as a provider and I'll die with that shame."
How it sounds in your head: A man's supposed to leave an inheritance. I'm leaving nothing. I couldn't break the cycle. I failed at the one job that mattered - taking care of my family.
"For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:21Religion: Defines a man's worth by his ability to accumulate and distribute wealth rather than his position in Christ.
Decades of cultural messaging told him a real man provides financially, and as he faces death with empty hands, the shame feels like his final verdict. He measures his entire life by this metric and finds himself wanting.
A son who utterly failed, blew his entire inheritance on prostitutes, and returned with absolutely nothing to offer - no money, no dignity, no plan. The father ran to him, restored him fully, and threw a party without one word about his failure.
I REFUSE the lie that my worth as a man is measured by my bank account. IT IS WRITTEN that I AM the righteousness of God in Christ - not because of what I provided but because of what HE provided. The prodigal brought nothing home and received everything. There is NO CONDEMNATION for me in Christ Jesus. IT IS WRITTEN that the blessing of Abraham is mine - the same blessing that made Abraham rich even AFTER he lied twice. My identity is BELOVED SON, not failed provider. The Father runs toward me with a robe of righteousness and a ring of authority, and neither were earned by my financial success.
Your Father doesn't measure you by what you accumulated but by whose you are, and He's running toward you with the robe that declares RIGHTEOUS SON, not failed provider. He sees you through the blood of Christ, which washes away every perceived failure and leaves only BELOVED.
