"I failed as a father because my kids aren't walking with God like I hoped they would."
How it sounds in your head: You watch other men's kids serving in ministry, leading worship, married with godly families. Yours? One's agnostic, one won't return your calls, one's living with someone. You had ONE job as a dad—pass on the faith—and you blew it. Every Father's Day at church feels like a report card you failed.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Enemy + religion: The lie that your children's choices are your report card before God and men.
You see the pattern—you worked too much, missed games, didn't pray with them enough, let them see you angry. The correlation between your failures and their wandering seems undeniable. Plus, Proverbs 22:6 gets weaponized at church—'train up a child'—implying their departure proves your training was deficient.
Eli was the HIGH PRIEST, serving God daily, yet his sons 'did not know the Lord' and corrupted worship with sexual sin and theft. God judged THE SONS for their own choices, not Eli for failing to pass on perfect faith—proving children's rebellion doesn't nullify a father's standing before God.
I REFUSE the lie that my children's wandering proves I failed as a father. IT IS WRITTEN in Ezekiel 18:20 that each soul bears their OWN choices—not mine for them, not theirs for me. My standing before God was NEVER determined by my children's report card. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1 there is NO CONDEMNATION for those in Christ Jesus—not even condemnation disguised as fatherhood failure. I stand RIGHTEOUS, not because I parented perfectly, but because CHRIST is my righteousness. The BARAK blessing on my family is COVENANT-BASED, not performance-based—just as Jacob's sons were murderers yet still protected. I declare my children are COVERED by the blessing of Abraham through Christ, and what God called blessed NO MAN can curse—including the enemy's narrative about my fatherhood.
Your Father is running toward you RIGHT NOW with the robe of 'good father' even while you're rehearsing your failures. He's not waiting for your kids to come home before He celebrates YOU—He's throwing the party for the father who thinks he failed, whispering, 'You loved them, you pointed them toward Me, and I'm not done writing their story.'
