"I don't have enough wisdom or spiritual maturity to lead or influence others."
How it sounds in your head: You're in your sixties and still don't have it figured out. Other guys your age are elders, leaders, mentors—you're still struggling with the same issues you had at thirty. You don't have spiritual depth to offer anyone.
"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."
-- James 1:5Source: Religion that measures spiritual maturity by visible performance and the enemy who accuses based on internal struggles.
You still battle temptation, still have doubts, still don't pray as much as you think you should. You compare yourself to men who seem to have spiritual disciplines mastered, and you feel like a fraud.
Solomon was a young, inexperienced king who admitted he didn't know how to lead. He asked God for wisdom, and God gave him wisdom beyond any man before or after him—INSTANTLY. He didn't earn it through years of study; he ASKED and RECEIVED in one encounter.
I REFUSE the lie that I lack the wisdom or maturity to lead. IT IS WRITTEN that if I lack wisdom, I ask God who gives LIBERALLY and without reproach. Wisdom is not earned—it's GIVEN. I am not disqualified by my struggles or doubts. IT IS WRITTEN that I have the MIND of Christ. I am not measured by my prayer life or spiritual disciplines but by the SPIRIT who lives in me. God doesn't wait for me to mature—He calls me MATURE in Christ right now. I am a son, a king, a priest—not because I arrived but because I'm IN HIM.
The Father isn't waiting for you to 'arrive' spiritually before He uses you—He's running toward you with the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead, ready to GIVE you wisdom the moment you ask. Like the prodigal who came home immature and broken but was immediately given the RING (authority) and ROBE (identity), the Father doesn't wait for you to mature—He DECLARES you mature IN CHRIST.
