"I don't deserve an inheritance because I haven't earned it or proven I can handle it."
How it sounds in your head: Other people work for years, build businesses, prove they're responsible stewards. I haven't done that. If I got an inheritance now, I'd probably waste it like I've wasted other opportunities. I need to prove myself first before I'm worthy of receiving anything significant.
"Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness."
-- Romans 4:4-5Performance theology teaches that inheritance is earned through stewardship rather than received through sonship.
She sees her own track record—past financial mistakes, times she didn't steward well, friends who seem more 'ready' for blessing. The older brother's voice says she hasn't worked enough years in the field to deserve the party.
He was young, unproven, and admitted 'I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in.' He hadn't built anything or proven his stewardship. God appeared to him and said 'Ask what you want Me to give you,' and when Solomon asked for wisdom, God gave him that PLUS riches and honor he didn't even ask for—all before he proved anything.
I REFUSE the lie that I must earn my inheritance through proven stewardship. IT IS WRITTEN that to him who does NOT WORK but believes, faith is counted as righteousness. Inheritance is not about my track record—it's about my POSITION as a child. IT IS WRITTEN that it's the Father's good pleasure to GIVE me the kingdom, not because I'm qualified but because He's GOOD. Solomon got the kingdom, wealth, and honor while admitting he was 'but a little child' who didn't know what he was doing. The prodigal got the ring and robe while still smelling like pigs. I am not an employee earning wages—I'm a SON receiving inheritance. The BARAK blessing wasn't based on Abraham's, Isaac's, or Jacob's performance. It's COVENANT, not compensation.
Your Father isn't waiting for you to prove you're responsible enough. He's giving you the ring while you're still rehearsing your 'make me a servant' speech. He KNOWS you'll waste it if you try in your own strength—that's why He's giving it as GRACE so you'll receive it in HIS strength.
