"I can't fall asleep until I'm completely exhausted because my body won't shut down."
How it sounds in your head: I have to stay up until I'm basically passing out or I'll just lie there awake. My body doesn't know when to rest and I have to force it through total exhaustion.
"I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety."
-- Psalm 4:8Performance mentality applied to rest - believing even sleep must be earned through complete depletion.
Adrenaline from screens and activities keeps him wired, and success falling asleep only when exhausted creates false pattern confirmation. His body seems to resist rest until forced.
Jacob was running for his life from Esau who wanted to kill him, sleeping on the ground with a rock for a pillow in total discomfort and danger. In that moment God gave him the dream of angels ascending and descending and the covenant promise - supernatural rest in the worst circumstances imaginable, instant sleep with a rock pillow.
I REFUSE the lie that I can't sleep until I'm completely exhausted or that I have to earn rest through depletion. IT IS WRITTEN that I will lie down in PEACE and sleep, not in exhaustion. My Father ALONE makes me dwell in safety, and that safety isn't created by wearing myself out. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus gives rest to the weary - He doesn't require weariness first. I am blessed in the BARAK covenant when I lie down, whether I'm tired or not. My body knows how to rest because my Father designed it to respond to HIS peace, not just to total exhaustion.
Your Father sees you fighting to stay awake and isn't waiting for you to collapse before giving you rest. He's running toward you with the same peace that gave Jacob sleep on a rock, speaking to your nervous system RIGHT NOW to release into His safety without needing to be depleted first.
