"I can't ask for things I want because my family can't afford it and I'd be selfish."
How it sounds in your head: You see your parents worry about bills. You feel guilty for even wanting anything. You learn to kill your desires before you voice them because asking feels like adding burden. Maybe wanting things makes you a bad kid.
"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."
-- Psalm 37:4Source: Poverty spirit teaching you to shrink your desires and orphan spirit making you feel like a burden.
You genuinely love your parents and see their stress, so silencing your wants feels noble and protective. The enemy twists compassion into poverty mindset and makes you feel guilty for having desires God actually planted.
A man named 'Pain' with a terrible background prayed boldly asking God to bless him indeed, enlarge his territory, keep His hand upon him, and keep him from evil—basically asked for EVERYTHING. God's response? 'So God granted him what he requested.' Instant yes to an audacious prayer.
I REFUSE the lie that my desires are selfish burdens. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives me the desires of my heart when I delight in Him—He PLANTED those desires as invitations to ask. Jabez asked boldly for blessing and territory and God said YES immediately. I am not an orphan scraping by—I am a son with access to my Father's endless supply. IT IS WRITTEN in Matthew 7:11 my Father knows how to give good gifts to His children. The BARAK blessing makes me blessed in my storehouses, and I boldly make my requests known RIGHT NOW without guilt or shame.
The Father doesn't roll His eyes at your desires—He delights when you ask because it shows you trust Him as a GOOD Father. Like the prodigal's father who threw a party with the fattened calf he'd been PREPARING, your Father has provision prepared and WANTS to release it—your asking gives Him joy, not burden.
