"Her kids adore her while mine barely call—I failed as a mother."
How it sounds in your head: You see her Mother's Day posts—three generations gathered, kids calling her their best friend. Your phone's silent. Your daughter's distant. Your son's angry about something you still don't understand. Other mothers got the relationship you prayed for, which means you must have done something fundamentally wrong.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Enemy weaponizes adult children's choices to make you bear guilt for their free will, as if love could control outcomes.
You did the same things—loved, sacrificed, showed up—but her kids are close and yours are gone. At 56, you thought motherhood would feel redemptive by now, but instead it feels like a report card you failed while she got honors.
God declared, 'I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against Me.' If rebellion makes someone a failed parent, then God Himself would be disqualified—but He's not. Children's choices are THEIR choices, not judgment on the parent's love.
I REFUSE the lie that my adult children's distance is proof of maternal failure. IT IS WRITTEN that each person bears their OWN load—their choices are theirs, not my guilt to carry. God Himself has rebellious children; does that make Him a failed Father? NO. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the BARAK generation—blessed in relationships, blessed in family, blessed even when the harvest LOOKS delayed. Her Mother's Day post has nothing to do with my covenant as a mother. I planted LOVE. I planted SACRIFICE. The enemy doesn't get to steal my peace because the harvest hasn't arrived on MY timeline. The prodigal came home—and so will mine.
The Father sees every sacrifice you made, every prayer you prayed, every meal you cooked, every tear you cried. Her close kids don't negate your faithful mothering—they're just on a different timeline. God's not grading you; He's HONORING you for love that didn't quit even when it wasn't returned.
