"Guys your age are in shape. You let yourself go and it's pathetic."
How it sounds in your head: You avoid mirrors. Your wedding suit doesn't fit. Guys you graduated with are running marathons while you're winded on stairs. You used to be athletic and now you're dad-bod at best, obese at worst. Your wife deserves better. You're supposed to be in your prime but you feel like it's over.
"But the LORD said to Samuel, 'Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.'"
-- 1 Samuel 16:7World's body standards combined with enemy assault on your strength identity and attractiveness as a man.
Your body HAS changed, energy IS lower, and comparison is visual and immediate. The decline feels like evidence of laziness or lost discipline.
Caleb was 85 years old when he declared he was as strong as the day Moses sent him out 45 years earlier - not because of CrossFit, but because of covenant. He took the MOUNTAIN at an age when men are supposed to retire, declaring "Give me this mountain" with the strength of a warrior.
I REFUSE the lie that my body's condition defines my value, strength, or manhood. IT IS WRITTEN that the LORD looks at the heart, not the mirror. Caleb took mountains at 85 - strength isn't youth or abs, it's CONNECTION to the One who renews like the eagle. I am fearfully and wonderfully made at this weight, in this shape, because the Spirit of God dwells in me. IT IS WRITTEN my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit - not when I lose 30 pounds, RIGHT NOW. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, loved completely, valued fully. My identity isn't my physique - it's my POSITION as beloved son.
The Father isn't waiting for you to get ripped before He calls you mighty - He sees a warrior when you see a gut, because He looks at hearts that love Him, not bodies that impress Instagram. You're not loved more at your wedding weight; you're completely loved NOW.
