"Good Christians don't have debt, so we must be doing something wrong."
How it sounds in your head: People at church talk about being blessed and debt-free. We're drowning in bills. Maybe we don't have enough faith. Maybe God is disappointed in us.
"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
-- Romans 8:38-39Religion: Prosperity gospel that measures God's approval by bank balance.
You hear testimonies of debt-freedom but experience collection calls. The contrast makes it seem like you're spiritually failing while others are spiritually succeeding.
God's people were SO IN DEBT they were selling their children into slavery to pay creditors - while REBUILDING God's temple. Debt didn't mean God wasn't with them; it meant enemy was attacking what God was building.
I REFUSE the lie that debt means we're spiritually failing. IT IS WRITTEN that NOTHING - including things present like debt - can separate us from God's love. Debt is not a spiritual report card. IT IS WRITTEN that we are the righteousness of God IN CHRIST - that's GIFT, not achievement. The BARAK blessing operates in famine AND in plenty. The Father's approval isn't measured by our bank balance but by CHRIST'S BLOOD. I receive His love and provision regardless of current debt. We are righteous, blessed, and LOVED - with or without debt.
The Father isn't waiting for you to be debt-free to approve of you - He APPROVED you at the cross when you were dead in sin. He's releasing debt-freedom as GIFT, not as proof you finally got spiritual enough.
