"God's blessing on my finances requires me to tithe and give consistently first."
How it sounds in your head: Malachi 3:10 - 'bring the whole tithe and I'll open heaven's windows.' My inconsistent giving is blocking blessing. I need to prove faithful in giving before God can trust me with increase. The storehouse comes after I bring the tithe, not before.
"And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work."
-- 2 Corinthians 9:8Religion putting Old Covenant tithing requirements on New Covenant sons, making God's provision transactional rather than relational and covenant-based through Christ's finished work.
Malachi 3:10 gets preached constantly as the 'prove me now' verse. His guilt over inconsistent giving feels like the obvious reason provision isn't flowing. Every testimony involves someone tithing their last dollar and God multiplying it.
The prodigal gave NOTHING - he'd blown every cent on prostitutes and had zero tithe to bring. The Father saw him coming and RAN to give him the robe, ring, sandals, and fattened calf anyway. The blessing flowed from RELATIONSHIP and SONSHIP, not from the son's giving record.
I REFUSE the lie that God's blessing on my finances requires consistent tithing performance first. IT IS WRITTEN that God makes all grace abound toward me - not based on my giving record, but on His NATURE. I am not under Malachi's Old Covenant law - I am under Christ's FINISHED WORK. IT IS WRITTEN that Christ redeemed me from poverty's curse, and the blessing of Abraham flows to me as an HEIR, not an employee earning commission. The BARAK blessing rested on Jacob even while he had nothing to give, on Abraham before the tithe to Melchizedek. I give from JOY and ABUNDANCE as a son, not from FEAR and OBLIGATION as a debtor. My Father is running toward me with provision that precedes my performance, because that's what FATHERS do for SONS.
Your Father doesn't withhold the ring until you prove generous with pennies. He's the God who gave the prodigal EVERYTHING while the son still had pig slop under his fingernails and hadn't tithed a dime - full provision, full restoration, ZERO performance required.
