"God wouldn't want you to stay miserable—He wants you happy, even if that means divorce."
How it sounds in your head: A loving God wouldn't condemn you to lifelong misery with someone who doesn't cherish you. Jesus came to give abundant life, not endure abusive marriages. Surely God values your happiness and mental health over an outdated covenant rule.
"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
-- John 16:33Therapeutic gospel mixing God's love with worldly self-actualization, redefining abundant life as comfort.
Every Christian self-help book says God wants her whole and healthy. Her therapist (even the Christian one) hints that staying might be trauma bonding. Happiness feels more spiritual than suffering.
Beaten with rods, feet in stocks, backs bleeding in prison at midnight—they SANG worship songs. Not after release, DURING suffering. God sent earthquake, chains fell off, jailer got saved. Their praise IN prison brought breakthrough.
I REFUSE the lie that God's will is my comfort. IT IS WRITTEN that in this world I WILL have tribulation—but Jesus has OVERCOME. My happiness isn't the goal; His GLORY is. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:18, 'Present sufferings not worth comparing with glory to be revealed.' I'm not enduring misery; I'm BELIEVING for metamorphosis. I'm Abraham's seed, blessed with BARAK that sustained through famine and strife. I declare JOY UNSPEAKABLE now.
Father isn't dangling happiness as bait to leave covenant. He's offering you JOY—the kind Paul had in prison, the kind martyrs sang with—that doesn't need circumstances to change because HE is enough. And then He changes circumstances anyway.
