"God let my business fail to teach me humility and dependence."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe you needed to be broken. Maybe God knew you were getting proud and self-sufficient, so He allowed the collapse to bring you back to Him. Perhaps this suffering is His classroom, and you're learning the hard lessons He wanted you to learn all along.
"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
-- John 10:10Religion teaching 'God causes suffering to teach lessons'; theology making God the author of destruction; trauma from 'everything happens for a reason' platitudes.
Pastors have preached this your whole life, and it feels spiritual to say 'God is teaching me something,' plus it gives meaning to senseless loss.
Disciples asked, 'Who sinned that this man was born blind?' Jesus said, 'NEITHER - but that the works of God should be revealed.' God didn't CAUSE the blindness to teach lessons; He came to HEAL it to reveal His glory.
I REFUSE the lie that God destroyed my business to teach me humility. IT IS WRITTEN that the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy - that's the ENEMY'S job description, not my Father's. Jesus came to give ABUNDANT LIFE. IT IS WRITTEN that every GOOD gift comes from the Father; destruction is not in His repertoire. The Father is not breaking me; He's REBUILDING me. I don't serve a God who authors loss to manufacture dependence - I serve a Father who restores instantly because that's His NATURE.
The Father didn't orchestrate your business collapse any more than He gave the blind man his condition - He's the HEALER, not the wounder. He's running toward you with restoration, not standing back to 'teach you a lesson.'
