"God is so disappointed I'm not pure like other Christian girls at youth group."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone else seems to have it together. They don't struggle like I do. God looks at me and shakes His head because I'm not measuring up to the good girls. I'm the failure He regrets saving.
"The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."
-- Zephaniah 3:17Source: Religion's comparison culture and purity movement teaching that positions girls as walking disappointments to God based on thoughts, struggles, or perceived spiritual performance.
She sees girls at church who seem perfect, who raise their hands in worship without shame, who don't seem to battle the thoughts she battles. The comparison makes her feel like God's second-tier daughter, the one He tolerates but doesn't celebrate.
She had five husbands and was living with a man who wasn't her husband, avoided people out of shame, yet Jesus traveled through Samaria specifically to meet her. He gave her living water instantly, made her the first evangelist, never mentioned her getting cleaned up first.
I REFUSE the lie that God compares me to other girls and finds me lacking. IT IS WRITTEN that He rejoices over ME with singing right now, in my mess, in my struggle, in my shame. I am not His disappointment - I am His delight. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for me in Christ Jesus. The Father ran to the prodigal while he still smelled like pigs. He's not waiting for me to be like other girls. He's celebrating the daughter I already am. I receive His love that quiets every comparison.
While you're comparing yourself to other girls, the Father is quieting your anxious heart with His love and singing over YOU specifically. He's not disappointed - He's so proud you're His daughter that He can't stop singing about it.
