"God is punishing me for not being content with what I had."
How it sounds in your head: I had a good job, a steady income. But I wanted more. I was greedy, and God took it all to teach me a lesson about contentment.
"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
-- John 10:10Religious teaching that wanting more is greedy and God disciplines through financial loss to teach contentment lessons.
The contrast between stable past and struggling present feels like cause and effect. Church teaching about contentment feels like proof God wanted him to stay small.
Jacob wasn't content with wages—he negotiated for spotted sheep and used strategy to increase his wealth. God blessed his 'ambition' and Genesis 30:43 says he 'became exceedingly prosperous.' Wanting more was BLESSED.
I REFUSE the lie that God is punishing my desire for more. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus came to give ABUNDANT life, not minimal survival. I serve a Father who wishes above all things that I PROSPER. The BARAK blessing that made Jacob exceedingly prosperous is mine. IT IS WRITTEN that my God supplies ALL need according to HIS riches in glory. My Father isn't teaching me to settle—He's preparing me for OVERFLOW. I receive abundant provision NOW.
Your Father never looked at your desire for more and called it greed. He smiled at your faith to believe He's that good. Right now He's not teaching you to settle—He's preparing to give you more than you originally dreamed.
