"Financial betrayal in marriage is the unforgivable sin that justifies permanent separation."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone says abuse isn't acceptable - well, financial abuse is abuse. The Christian thing to do is set boundaries, and my boundary is I'm done. God wouldn't expect me to stay with someone who destroyed our security. Forgiveness doesn't mean staying.
"Then Peter came to Him and said, 'Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?' Jesus said to him, 'I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.'"
-- Matthew 18:21-22Source: Religion's mixture of psychology and Scripture that creates 'righteous' justification for abandoning covenant using therapeutic language.
Church culture has taught you that 'boundaries' and 'protecting yourself' are virtues, and that God's grace has limits when someone hurts you badly enough. It feels spiritually mature to leave rather than enabling bad behavior.
A servant owed his master 10,000 talents (MILLIONS of dollars - literally IMPOSSIBLE to repay). The master FORGAVE THE ENTIRE DEBT instantly. Then that servant refused to forgive someone who owed him 100 denarii (a few months wages) and the master reinstated his massive debt for showing no mercy.
I REFUSE the lie that financial betrayal is unforgivable or justifies abandoning covenant. IT IS WRITTEN that I forgive SEVENTY TIMES SEVEN - not because they deserve it but because CHRIST FORGAVE ME an unpayable debt while I was His enemy. I was forgiven MILLIONS, I can forgive HUNDREDS. IT IS WRITTEN that the blessing of Abraham is mine by covenant - and Abraham's blessing RESTORED what was lost, MULTIPLIED what was stolen, and PROTECTED what remained even after failure. The Father is giving me supernatural capacity to forgive as I've been forgiven. I walk in mercy because I've received mercy.
The Father is saying, 'You owed Me everything and I canceled it all while you were still spending on yourself - can you extend that mercy to them?' He's already prepared restoration, the ring of authority to release them from debt just as your debt was released, and the robe that says 'forgiven people forgive.'
