"Faith is for people who don't think critically. I've outgrown it."
How it sounds in your head: I see my fundamentalist relatives—the anti-science, anti-intellectual, blind acceptance. That's not me anymore. I can't turn my brain off. Maybe faith is just a crutch for people who can't handle reality. Maybe growing up means growing out of God.
"Come now, and let us reason together, says the LORD, though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
-- Isaiah 1:18Enemy: equating childlike faith with childish ignorance, making maturity the enemy of belief.
You've watched grown adults reject vaccines, believe conspiracy theories, and cite the Bible for it. You've seen faith used to justify ignorance. Your critical thinking feels incompatible with the anti-intellectualism you see in church culture.
Paul stood in the Areopagus—the intellectual center of the ancient world—and engaged philosophers on their own terms, quoting their poets, deconstructing their logic, building bridges to truth. Several believed immediately, including Dionysius the Areopagite, a member of the high court. No dumbing down, no 'just believe'—rigorous intellectual engagement that led to instant conversion.
I REFUSE the lie that intellect and faith are enemies. IT IS WRITTEN: 'Come now, and let us REASON together, says the LORD.' My God INVITES critical thinking. He's not the God of fundamentalism—He's the God of Isaiah, Paul, Solomon, Daniel—men of massive intellect who reasoned, debated, analyzed. IT IS WRITTEN: 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, MIND, and strength' (Mark 12:30). My MIND is part of worship, not an obstacle to it. I am Abraham's seed, blessed with the BARAK covenant—and Abraham argued with God about Sodom. My Father engages my intellect because He created it.
Your Father gave you that brain. He's not intimidated by it. He's the one who wired you to question, analyze, and seek deeper understanding. The anti-intellectualism you're rejecting isn't Him—it's religion's attempt to control what it can't explain. He wants your whole mind engaged, not checked at the door.
