"Being task-oriented instead of people-focused means I'm missing the heart of God."
How it sounds in your head: I've always been better with projects than people. Ministry culture says it's all about relationships, and I feel like I'm missing something essential. My wife says I care more about getting things done than connecting. Maybe my wiring is fundamentally unloving.
"And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship."
-- Exodus 31:3People-pleasing religion that elevates one relational style while ignoring that biblical Kingdom builders included engineers, organizers, and craftsmen whose WORK was their worship.
Every church culture he's experienced has elevated relational ministry over practical contribution. His task-orientation has been framed as less spiritual or loving, making him feel like his primary gifting is somehow inferior to people-focused personalities.
Bezalel was filled with God's Spirit specifically for CRAFTSMANSHIP - cutting stones, working metal, designing structures. His task-orientation was called being 'filled with the Spirit.' He never led a small group, but he built the place where God's presence dwelt. Tasks WERE his ministry.
I REFUSE the lie that being task-oriented means I'm unloving or missing God's heart. IT IS WRITTEN that God fills people with His Spirit for WORKMANSHIP. My Father RAN toward me when I was focused on getting things done - He's not waiting for me to become relational. I am the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God in Christ, and IT IS WRITTEN that administrators are listed among spiritual gifts. My task-focus is WORSHIP. The BARAK blessing covered Bezalel the craftsman, Noah the builder, Nehemiah the project manager. I am blessed in my work and my accomplishments.
Your Father is CELEBRATING every task you complete because you're BUILDING His Kingdom with your hands. He's not asking you to become a people-person - He's asking you to BUILD what people-persons will fill. The prodigal's father had an ESTATE that needed MANAGING - task-focus is love.
