"Alzheimer's runs in my family, so I'll probably lose my mind when I'm older."
How it sounds in your head: I watched my grandma forget who I was. Now my dad is starting to show signs. The doctors say there's a genetic component. I'm terrified that I'm going to lose myself the same way, forget everyone I love, become a shell of who I am.
"Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you."
-- Isaiah 46:4Enemy uses fear of future mental decline to steal present peace and create false prophetic expectation based on bloodline.
The trauma of watching a loved one deteriorate mentally is devastating, and medical research on genetic factors makes it seem scientifically inevitable. The fear feels overwhelming and certain.
Caleb at 85 years old declared 'I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength' - ZERO decline in 45 years, asking for the most difficult mountain to conquer, full mental clarity and physical strength at an age when most are declining.
I REFUSE the lie that Alzheimer's is my genetic future. IT IS WRITTEN that even to my old age and gray hairs, God Himself will carry me and DELIVER me - that's a promise covering my entire life, including my mind. I have been given a SOUND MIND, not a declining mind, and that gift doesn't expire with age. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 92:14 that the righteous 'shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing' - my mind will be FRESH and FLOURISHING, not fading. The BARAK blessing protected Abraham's mind at 175 years, Moses' mind at 120 ('his eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished'), and it protects MY mind through every year of my life. I will remember, I will think clearly, I will know my loved ones, because my Father keeps His promises.
Your Father isn't planning to carry you until your mind fails and then abandon you - He promises to carry you THROUGH old age with strength, clarity, and freshness. While you're afraid of future mental decline, He's already scheduled decades of 'fresh and flourishing' fruit-bearing in your future, with full mental capacity to enjoy every moment.
