"Alcoholism destroyed my uncle; I can't touch alcohol or I'll become him."
How it sounds in your head: It's genetic. One drink could trigger the addiction gene. You've seen what it did to him - lost everything, died alone. You can't risk it. You're one beer away from his fate. The tendency is in your blood.
"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."
-- 1 Corinthians 10:13Source: Enemy using legitimate caution to establish fear-based identity and genetic determinism.
You've seen the devastation firsthand. Medical research confirms genetic predisposition. One drink feels like playing Russian roulette with your future because you watched him spiral from casual drinking to complete destruction.
John came neither eating nor drinking (ascetic) and they said he had a demon. Jesus came eating and drinking (freedom) and they called him a glutton and drunkard. BOTH were righteous - different expressions of the same freedom, neither in bondage to substance or fear.
I REFUSE the lie that my uncle's alcoholism determines my fate. IT IS WRITTEN that God is faithful and provides a way of escape from EVERY temptation. I am not in bondage to genetics - I am IN CHRIST with self-control as the fruit of the Spirit. My choices come from FREEDOM, not fear. IT IS WRITTEN in Galatians 5:1 that Christ has made me FREE - not controlled by substances OR fear of substances. I walk in wisdom and liberty, not genetic determinism.
The Father doesn't see you as one drink away from destruction - He sees you as His son with supernatural self-control already built into your new nature. He trusts you with freedom because you have HIS DNA.
