"After a lifetime of being strong for everyone else, wanting to be held and comforted makes me pathetic."
How it sounds in your head: You held your wife through her tears. You held your kids through their fears. You held your employees, your parents, your friends. Now you're old and tired and want someone to hold YOU, and it makes you sick with shame. Leaders don't collapse. Providers don't need provision.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
-- Matthew 11:28Enemy weaponizing male-provider identity and generational stoicism; suggesting receiving comfort is role-betrayal rather than designed need.
Sixty years of being the strong one created an identity around GIVING support, not receiving it. Every fiber says needing comfort is regression, weakness, failure of masculinity.
Mighty prophet fresh off defeating 450 prophets of Baal, ran in terror, collapsed under a tree, asked to DIE—God's response was angels bringing food, letting him sleep, touching him gently TWICE, providing for him in total breakdown. No rebuke for collapsing. Instant tender care for the exhausted warrior.
I REFUSE the lie that wanting comfort makes me pathetic. IT IS WRITTEN: Jesus invites the LABORERS to REST, the heavy laden to COME and be held. My Father isn't disgusted by my exhaustion; He's RUNNING toward me with arms open to hold me, prepared a place for me to collapse, sent angels to feed me in my breakdown. I am Abraham's seed, blessed with the BARAK that never required constant strength. IT IS WRITTEN: His strength is made PERFECT in my weakness. I don't need to be strong for Him—I need to be HELD by Him. I am the BELOVED SON at 67, tired and wanting comfort, and this makes my Father sing. I receive His rest, His arms, His tenderness RIGHT NOW.
God let Elijah collapse completely, sleep, weep, quit—and responded with ANGELS bringing FOOD and TOUCH. Your Father isn't waiting for you to pull yourself together; He's preparing the table, opening His arms, inviting you to fall into Him while you're still exhausted and done.
