"Abundance now would distract me from preparing my heart for eternity."
How it sounds in your head: At this stage, I should be focused on spiritual things, not material comfort. Abundance might make me worldly when I should be getting ready to meet God. Better to stay focused through limitation.
"The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing."
-- Psalm 92:12-14Gnostic heresy that spiritual and material are opposing forces and blessing threatens devotion.
You're genuinely thinking about eternity more now and the false dichotomy between earthly blessing and heavenly focus seems logical, even protective.
Abraham died 'old and full of years' still wealthy, still blessed, with Isaac inheriting everything. His abundance to the end didn't hinder his faith—it demonstrated God's covenant faithfulness across his entire lifespan.
I REFUSE the lie that abundance threatens my eternity focus. IT IS WRITTEN that the righteous bear fruit in OLD AGE, fresh and FLOURISHING. Abraham died wealthy and full of years—blessing didn't distract him. The BARAK blessing covers my latter years with increase, not decrease. IT IS WRITTEN that God takes pleasure in prospering His servant. My abundance on earth demonstrates His faithfulness and funds kingdom work until my last breath. I flourish NOW and prepare for eternity FROM abundance, not through limitation!
The Father isn't stripping away earthly blessing to make you spiritually ready for heaven. He's the God who gave Abraham wealth until 175, who made Job's latter days more blessed than his former, who makes you flourish like a palm tree in old age because your abundance NOW demonstrates His faithfulness and your fresh flourishing in your seventies preaches His goodness louder than poverty ever could.
